St James Golf Day
The 25th annual golf day held at the St James Golf Course for men and women was held in 2014.
A shotgun start at 10am with a break in play for soup and sandwiches after nine holes.
At the completion of the 18 holes a country style afternoon tea was served and prizes awarded.
For those that played nine holes or did not play golf at all there was time for a game of cards, some social chat and warmth by the fire. The sun shone and the day was enjoyed by all. The course was in excellent condition due to recent rains and the sand greens were a challenge.
The winners over 18 holes were Terry Duffy and Mick Blake on 45 points, on a count back from Jim Kelly and Graeme Treuin.
Nearest pin winner was Shirley Walsh. Longest drive was Utai Feright (lady) and Jim Old (men).
All other golfers took home a golf ball with no one going home empty handed. Norm Whinray was the nine hole competition winner.
While everyone was enjoying the afternoon tea, a Multi Choice Raffle with 40 prizes was drawn and a trading table with fresh produce and cakes for purchase was popular.
Golfers for this annual afternoon have been organized by Dot Fisher and Marj Bleckwehl, ably assisted by Yvonne Davies for the last 19 years and are now looking to find other people to help run this very popular afternoon, held in May (Last event 2014).
